Imad Wasim starred with the ball as Islamabad United thrashed Multan Sultans by two wickets in the final to win the recently-concluded Pakistan Super League 2024 (PSL 2024). Opening the bowling, the left-arm spinner picked up five wickets for just 23 runs in his four overs.
He dismissed opener Yasir Khan and David Willey in his very first over to leave the Sultans reeling at 14 for 2. After the early breakthroughs, he ran through Sultans’ middle-order to dash their hopes of finishing the innings strongly.
He dismissed the dangerous Johnson Charles for just 4, and Khushdil Shah for 11 before accounting for Chris Jordan for a duck to complete his five-wicket haul. Captain Shadab Khan impressed with the ball as well, taking three wickets as Sultans finished their innings on 159 for 9 in the allotted 20 overs. Usman Khan top-scored for the Multan-based outfit, scoring 57 off 40 balls. Iftikhar Ahmed also played a crucial knock of 32 not out off 20 balls.
Imad Wasim caught smoking:
The 159-run total did not turn out to be enough for the Sultans as they suffered their third PSL final loss in a row. Islamabad United chased down the total on the very final ball of the game to become the first team to win the PSL thrice. Martin Guptill top-scored with the bat, scoring 50 off 32.
Islamabad were in a precarious situation after being reduced to 129 for 7 in the 18th over. However, Imad Wasim and Naseem Shah shared a 30-run stand to level the score before Hunain Shah hit a last-ball four to seal the game for his side.
While Imad Wasim is receiving praise from all around for his all-round show in the PSL final, he is also looking set to land in trouble after being caught smoking a cigarette in the dressing room. The incident took place when he took a break and was sitting in the dressing room during the game. He tried his best to hide the cigarette but the damage was already done.

Meanwhile, the impressive performance in PSL 2024 could see Imad Wasim sensationally coming out of his retirement to play for Pakistan in this year’s T20 World Cup. He recently revealed that captain Shaheen Afridi had called him before saying that he was open to playing for Pakistan again.
