With Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clinching their first-ever title after a long wait of 16 years, Virat Kohli made sure to celebrate it in style. The former India skipper is the only player who has been associated with the franchise since its inception in 2008.
With the RCB’s men’s team, Virat Kohli played in three IPL finals but could not end up on the winning side even once. The Bengaluru-based outfit’s long wait for the title finally came to an end on Sunday (March 17) when it defeated Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in the final of WPL 2024.
Batting first, Delhi Capitals were bowled out for just 113 runs in the 19th over. At one stage, they were comfortably placed at 64 for no loss and were looking destined to post a big total. However, Sophie Molineux completely changed the course of the game by taking three wickets in one over to reduce DC to 64 for 3. Shreyanka Patil then claimed four wickets to help RCB bowl out DC for a modest total.
Ellyse Perry and Virat Kohli share a special moment:
Chasing 113, RCB crossed the finishing line with three balls remaining. Openers Smriti Mandhana (31) and Sophie Devine (32) made useful contributions before Ellyse Perry (35*) and Richa Ghosh (17*) sealed the game. And as soon as Richa hit the winning four in the final over, Virat Kohli joined the celebrations through a video call.
The video of the moment has already gone viral on social media with many praising the India superstar for his heartwarming gesture. And another special moment from the video call has now surfaced involving Virat Kohli and Perry. During the video call, Perry gave an epic reaction as she was heard saying: “V for Virat!”

Talking about Perry, she starred with both bat and ball for RCB in WPL 2024. In the last league game, she took 6 wickets for 15 runs and scored an unbeaten 40 to help RCB defeat defending champions Mumbai Indians and qualify for the playoffs. In the playoffs, she scored 66 and picked up one wicket against the same outfit before top-scoring for RCB in the final.
As far as Virat Kohli is concerned, he will be returning to action in IPL 2024 after missing the action for more than a month.
