BCCI forms committee led by Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Ajit Agarkar to enhance domestic cricket

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called up Team India head coach Rahul Dravid and chief selector Ajit Agarkar for the betterment of domestic cricket. As per the reports in the Times of India, it is learned that the governing body is keen to improve the domestic circuit.

The reports claimed that BCCI has made a three-member committee including Team India head coach Rahul Dravid chief selector Ajit Agarkar and NCA head VVS Laxman. The governing body has asked the pioneers of Indian cricket to give their suggestions as to how domestic cricket can be improved.

BCCI of late has been putting in a lot of value to domestic cricket. They have made it mandatory for all the Indian Cricket Team players to play for their state teams when they are not engaged in international commitments and all the players have come up with a positive response.

A source close to BCCI revealed that the governing body faced a lot of challenges in conducting domestic cricket. He pointed out the issues that arose and confirmed that Dravid, Laxman, and Agarkar have been asked to give their suggestions. He added:

“There were a lot of issues that cropped up during the conduct of men’s domestic cricket, with a prominent problem being that a lot of games in north India, particularly during the Ranji Trophy, were washed out or heavily curtailed due to bad weather in December-January.

“Dravid, Laxman and Agarkar have been asked to give their suggestions to improve men’s domestic cricket.”

The source also confirmed that BCCI decided about the same during their Apex Council meeting on Monday (18th March). Of late India captain Rohit Sharma has been stressing on the importance of domestic cricket as well. He recently attended the final of the Ranji Trophy 2024 as well.

Apart from this, BCCI also added an incentive for the Test match players so that they prioritize the red-ball cricket more. The move has made all the international and the domestic players to take the domestic cricket seriously.

The reports also claimed that BCCI will be soon deciding on giving Associate membership to the Union Territories of Daman and Diu, who have been demanding Associate Membership. It is learned that the governing body has formed a two-member committee related to the same.

BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar and joint secretary Devajit Saikia will be part of the committee and they will be deciding if the governing body will be giving  Associate membership for the Union Territories of Daman and Diu or not.

The source stated that Ashish Shelar and  Devajit Saikia will be making a report soon and submitting it to the BCCI’s Apex Council. As per the reports, it is also learned that the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) will also be ready before October 2024.
