2024-25 NFL MVP odds: Patrick Mahomes favored, C.J. Stroud rises

Can Patrick Mahomes follow up his third Super Bowl MVP performance by claiming the NFL MVP Award for a third time next season?

After leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a win in Super Bowl LVIII, Mahomes opened as the early favorite to be the MVP of the 2024-25 season at +600. Over two months later, his odds are even lower, as he now sits at +450 to win the award.

Right behind Mahomes is — unsurprisingly — Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen at +850.

However, what could be surprising to some is that reigning MVP Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens is tied for fifth at +1400. In front of Jackson is Texans QB CJ Stroud, who is tied for second, and Cincinnati QB Joe Burrow, who is third at +900.

Lastly, one young quarterback has made a slight jump up the oddsboard.

After opening at +3500, Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson’s odds to win MVP have risen to +3000.

Richardson threw for 577 yards, ran for another 136 and totaled seven touchdowns in the four games he started. He exited two of those four games early with injury, including a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 5 of his rookie campaign.

Let’s take a full look at the updated MVP betting board at DraftKings Sportsbook as of June 16.

2024-25 NFL MVP ODDS:

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs: +450 (bet $10 to win $55 total)
Josh Allen, Bills: +850 (bet $10 to win $905total)
C.J. Stroud, Texans: +850 (bet $10 to win $95 total)
Joe Burrow, Bengals: +900 (bet $10 to win $100 total)
Jordan Love, Packers: +1400 (bet $10 to win $150 total)
Lamar Jackson, Ravens: +1400 (bet $10 to win $150 total)
Brock Purdy, 49ers: +1400 (bet $10 to win $150 total)
Aaron Rodgers, Jets: +1600 (bet $10 to win $170 total)
Jalen Hurts, Eagles: +1600 (bet $10 to win $160 total)
Dak Prescott, Cowboys: +1600 (bet $10 to win $170 total)
Justin Herbert, Chargers: +2000 (bet $10 to win $190 total)
Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins: +2200 (bet $10 to win $230 total)
Anthony Richardson, Colts: +3000 (bet $10 to win $310 total)
Matthew Stafford, Rams: +3000 (bet $10 to win $310 total)
Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars: +3000 (bet $10 to win $310 total)

Quarterbacks normally dominate the MVP odds list.

The non-QB with the shortest odds is San Francisco running back Christian McCaffrey at +4000, followed by Tyreek Hill at +7500.

The last non-QB to win MVP was Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in 2012.

Is C.J. Stroud already a top-5 QB in the NFL?

Stroud is entering his second year in the league with lofty expectations.

As a rookie, he was 9-6 as a starter and led the Texans to the AFC divisional round, where they lost to Jackson’s Ravens in Baltimore.

Last season, Stroud threw for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions, while completing 63.9% of his passes. That was with his top two receivers being third-year pro Nico Collins and fellow rookie Tank Dell.

Now, Stroud will not only have Collins and Dell catching passes, but four-time Pro-Bowler and former first team All-Pro selection Stefon Diggs will join the fray, after the Texans traded for him back in April.
